Have a chair that needs a new look? Do it yourself and learn the basics of upholstery or chair caning with Alice Barnes. This class is for new and returning students.
Upholstery - Do it yourself and learn the basics of upholstery: types of fabrics, measuring, cutting, frame repair, spring tying, re-padding, and total recovering of your project. Bring your project to the 1st session. Please wear suitable clothes for working. Project should be a small occasional chair. This class is for new and former students. Fabrics and supplies will be available at class.
Caned Chair Restoration - Do you have a chair with broken caning in the back or seat? You can learn to replace it with either natural Pre-Woven cane or Natural Ratan strand by strand weaving of the cane depending on how the item is constructed and the original cane was installed. Bring your item to be caned to the first class so we can determine the size and type of cane needed. All supplies will be ordered then.
The class will meet for 6 sessions. The average caned seat can take 21+ hours to complete. Please specify type of project when registering. You will need to pay for supplies used at the end of the class. Space is limited to 6 participants.
Refund Policy
Full refunds will be given when CER cancels a class. If you cancel your registration BEFORE start date a refund for the class, less a $5 processing fee and any material costs incurred will be provided. No refunds will be given on or after the class/event start date.
Refunds will be made only under the following conditions:
1. If your class is filled to capacity before your registration is received.
2. If your class is cancelled by CER.

Registration Policy
Pre-registration with full payment is required, unless otherwise noted. Class sizes are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Most registration deadlines are one week before the start of class. Decisions on whether to hold the class are made on the registration deadline date, so please register early!
